Camay Beauty Products launched in Kenya

As I was going about my typical busy day at work, I received a call from the reception that I had a visitor. At first I was very furious since I was too busy to leave my desk yet there was someone waiting for me. I decided to ignore but five minutes later the receptionist personally came to my desk and told me that there was a man with flowers requesting to see me personally.
I wondered who could that be with flowers, the first thing I noticed was the flowers and the card. The gentleman was doing special delivery for the invited guests to the #scentofwoman launch event at Kempinski on 24th June. The invite did not reveal details but it was so enticing.

It was a great honor to be invited as one of the guests on such occasions I am always on the other side trying to make sure  that guests are well taken care of. The dress code was Tres Chic, very interesting indeed I had no idea what I would wear but decided to go for a simple blue outfit with a touch of the theme colour which was fuchsia.

A day later I received another call and this time round they brought me a scented candle and massage voucher at Kempinski. Clearly this was a sign of good things ahead.
The D-day finally came, fast forward to the event, the look and feel of the event was out of this world, and it brought out the essence of the event with pure white couches arranged around the room. A dressing table with Camay products on display, a massage corner with some attractive bare chest men who were on standby for a massage session.

The brand team took the guests through the event’s agenda showcasing a range of products that will be available in retail stores across the country. The brand activation team will also be in different malls engaging consumers on the product.
The beauty brand consists of a body lotion, Roll-on antiperspirant deodorant, Spray antiperspirant deodorant as well as a beauty soap. Camay has 3 distinctive fragrances; Romantic, Pure Refresh and captivation to cater for the varying scents that women want.

Of all the products I loved Camay Romantic Lotion and Antiperspirant, its scent and packaging is great. However if you are allergic to strong scents you might have a problem with these products. The scent sticks on you for a longer period. I will most definitely check out other products that they have in retails stores.

Camay’s enduring scents are inspired by French fragrances and designed by top perfumers to reflect the latest fragrance trends. Camay beauty products contain a drop of real perfume so their individual scents are designed with top, heart and base notes to deliver sophisticated scent characters for 24 hours, which are comparable to real perfume, to ensure women feel and smell their most attractive throughout the day.

Camay Brand Manager Victoria Kieti Chesire, said “Camay recognises the femininity of today’s woman while appreciating her attractiveness, confidence, hard work, and achievements all the while bringing out her gorgeous self, and sensuality through the glow of her skin serenaded by moisture and beautiful fragrances a relationship of scent, moisture and skin”

 Very Important - QUALITY BLENDER

Very Important – QUALITY BLENDER

The inside of your bag tells a lot about you….

Ladies carry different types of handbags in different sizes, colors and designs.  Some ladies prefer bigger bags to smaller bags and the other way round. They carry them to work, church, occasions and even some go with them to parties!!! The last part I never get it at all, why would one go with a hand bag to a party?

A woman without a handbag feels as lost as a wanderer in the desert. However this is not the case we have ladies who don’t carry handbags instead they opt for smaller versions such as clutch bags or tote bags. There are those that don’t carry one at all, I have a colleague who rarely carries a handbag, she varies her money and phone in her trouser pockets.

Ladies carry handbags for different reasons, some are used for day to day activities, others are used for special occasions such as weddings or parties among others. As much as bags are used as accessories to match our outfits, shoes or any other accessories, it is essential to have one for the purpose of keeping all necessary items needed.

Question what do ladies carry in those handbags? Women are known for carrying all kinds items in handbags which has resulted to ridicule based on the size and weight.  Some bags have been christened “fornication bags” because of their sizes.

A handbag is a necessity however big or small for some specific reasons but most importantly it is a solution for keeping all items required by a lady as we go about our day to day activities. Ladies tend to have all kinds of items in the bag that either are necessary or not. It is very important to arrange your bag in a manner that will enable you get your items faster.

Have you ever been embarrassed when you opened a bag in front of someone? Reason being it is disorganized and you don’t seem to find what you are looking for. Sometimes you remove some things that are not for public displays J yes we usually have those moments.

How about you invested in smaller bags that can accommodate various items you carry every day or use occasionally but need them anyway in the bag.

It is important to ensure that you check your bag at least twice a week and get rid of items that are not necessary. For instance receipts or coins which you can move to your coin container. When this is done you will notice that your bag is not heavy with items that are not necessary at all.

There are smaller bags that are good when it comes to itemizing stuff that go to your bag. One can buy them cheaply at any second hand outlet for as little as Kshs. 50 depending with the size and make. I have several of smaller bags for the sake of keeping my bag well organized and manageable when looking for anything without turning it upside.

 Make Up bag 1

The makeup bag has; Nivea lotion, Tissues, wet wipes, Dettol Hand sanitizer, Rexona Roll on, Midnight Pomegranate fragrance mist, toothbrush, Jelly comb, Comb, Sanitary Towels, and a headband

Make up Bag 2

You might be wondering why I have two make up bags. I opted to divide for the purpose of ease. The first one is used where necessary, the second comes in handy when I want to spruce up my face.

This has my lipsticks Constance  Carroll UK (royal red, copper tint, Mahogany) I use these occasionally, water proof mascara that I rarely use, Eye pencil that I use once in a while, Lip-gloss my daily wear, Vaseline, sleek Makeup powder, mirror and hair pins

Notebook Bag

All my note books for work, home and other activities that might need a book go in there, it also serves as pencil porch where I put my pencil, pens, rubber, ruler and eraser. All receipts and anything in the name of paper is put in this bag.

This is a must, it has money, credit cards, my family photographs, and other important documents that might be required where necessary.

Business Card and Flash disk holder

This bag carries all my business card for work and personal, flash disks, car keys, camera and earphones. It also has a mini pocket for coins.

Sunglasses holder

The sun is all out there, sometimes you need to protect yourself from the sun hence very important to carry your sunglasses where need be.

All the above bags play critical roles in bag organization since I know where I can find what wherever I need. It helps my bag look neat and well organized.

There you go now go ahead and arrange your handbag following the above tips.

Some TLC for my Natural hair

Every first weekend of the month my friends and I go for a hike, and this weekend wasn’t exceptional. By 7.30am we embarked on our hiking escapade to Magadi’s Shanamo hills. This was the third time hiking in this area having gone to Olergesailie and Olesekut. We had been warned of the hot weather and were advised to carry wide brim hats to protect ourselves from the sun, I opted to go for a Casa Bacardi Fedora hat. Who said Natural hair shouldn’t be taken care of? Any type of hair; be it relaxed or natural taking extra care of it contributes to healthy growth hence easy maintenance.

Thank God it rained the previous night, making the weather  friendly it was not  neither too hot nor too cold it was perfect for the hike and no dust at all. Did I mention that place is far!!! I almost thought we were going to my shags (Western). Anyway that is a story for another day.

By the end of the day my hair felted neglected as result of the heat and the rain. It needed some TLC for sure. On our way back I checked online for home made solution that I can do to bring life back to my hair. Since I had tried a homemade Avocado Mask; , I opted for Banana mask.

Based on the research, bananas are good for rejuvenating hair. Bananas are never out of season at the same time they are affordable for one goes for Kshs. 5 a bigger one goes for Kshs. 10 I only used 4 bananas. Bananas are rich in potassium, vitamins, anti-oxidants and also has natural oils and moisture. Bananas prevent breakage, split ends and maintaining natural hair elasticity.

Bananas go hand in hand with other products such as honey, olive oil, milk. You can choose either of the ingredients. I opted to do my own recipe; Ripe Bananas and Organics Carrot Oil Cream.  I  mashed the bananas then mixed with the cream; then applied on the hair after splitting it in sections. I wore a shower cap and went about my household chores until after one hour. Since bananas also work wonders for the skin and given that mine is sensitive, I used it together with honey and lemon to form a face mask.

I shampooed my hair with Alberto Balsam  and added a bit of Alberto Balsam conditioner to bring out the soft texture that I required.  Rinsing off the bananas was bit of work, the mistake I made was not blending bananas into some liquidish form instead it had particles that could not get off my hair.  I used a lot of shampoo and more time was needed to ensure that it all came out. Eventually I got that perfect feel I wanted for my hair, rejuvenated.

About BACARDÍ rum – The World’s Most Awarded rum

In 1862, in the city of Santiago de Cuba, founder Don Facundo Bacardí Massó revolutionized the spirits industry when he created the world’s first smooth, light-bodied spirit – BACARDÍ rum. The unique taste of BACARDÍ rum inspired cocktail pioneers to create some of the world’s most famous cocktail recipes including the BACARDÍ Mojito, the BACARDÍ Daiquirí, the BACARDÍ Cuba Libre, BACARDÍ Pina Colada and the BACARDÍ Presidente. Seven generations later, the Bacardi Company is still family owned, and BACARDÍ rum has won nearly 600 awards for quality and product profile. Today, BACARDÍ rum is made in Puerto Rico and Mexico, where it is crafted to ensure the taste remains the same today as it did when it was first blended in 1862.

Embracing Ugandan Culture – Gomesi Outfit

My grandmother had Gomesi outfits in different colours and used to wear them during occasions such as weddings; church services and funerals. I come from Busia County which neighbors Uganda and is known for cross border activities between Ugandans and Kenyans. Our tribe is little known Samia that resides along the shores of Lake Victoria and apparently there is a larger Samia tribe in Uganda of which our cultures are more else the same. These include dressing, food, cultural activities etc. hence the dress code Uganda style Gomesi for ladies and Kanzus for men. I really love and appreciate my roots including culture and what have you, hence follow some of the cultural practices where applicable, dressing included that is why I own a timeless piece of Gomesi in my wardrobe.

Gomesi  is a very symbolic outfit in Uganda and parts of Western Kenya especially in Busia County.  Gomesi was first designed in early 40s as a school uniform for a secondary school in Uganda after missionaries realized that girls were dressing indecently to school.  In African society a woman is supposed to be dressed decently to earn respect. In Uganda a woman was not perceived to be dressed decently if she showed up without a Gomesi.

The outfit was done by an Indian Tailor called Fernando Gomes hence the name Gomesi.  Since most students from the school were from rich families Gomesi became a household name amongst the royals thus spreading across Uganda.

The outfits are mostly tailored from Silk and Satin materials after Indian Traders in early 1960s recommended it given that it was light and colorful and affordable than Cotton. The design is almost similar to Kimono worn by Japanese and West African Obi that forms a massive skirt.

The outfit is a floor length that is about six layers of fabric on top of another two layers of striped undergarments which makes the outfit look propositional when worn. There are folds and flaps, buttons, a giant belt and tall, pointy shoulders which makes it stand out and a square neckline.

Wore this during a friend’s wedding. I have a blue belt that I interchange when I need to have a different look

The younger generation however  have opted to play around the outfit by coming up with different designs such as strapless Gomesi or long flowing outfits with almost the same design as Gomesi.

Gomesi outfits have really been transformed to fit every person’s personality starting from children, young ladies to adults. In rural areas it is a form of daily dress, however it is commonly worn during weddings, dowry negotiations to show decency and respect between the two families, funerals as well.

When choosing materials for different occasions put into considerations the colours and patterns. There are different colours and patterns meant for the younger generation and older generations respectively.  For example when choosing an outfit for a wedding go for one with unique colours and patterns.

When accessorizing a Gomesi ensure that shoes and bags match the patterns and colours. You can either color block or choose an outstanding color on the Gomesi.   Be careful when choosing jewelry as well. I would recommend simple earrings e.g studs and Princess Necklaces that will stand out.
